Day 1, October 9, 2016 Montreal - Kilimanjaro

Meeting at P.E.Trudeau airport and flight to Kilimanjaro via Europe. Meals and overnight on flight.

Day 2, October 10, 2016: Arrival

Arrival at the airport of Kilimanjaro. You will be welcomed by the local team in Tanzania. Transfer to your lodge, dinner and night in a lodge.

Day 3, October 11, 2016: Acclimatization Day

After breakfast, you will meet with the local team and guide. The guide will explain to step of the climb and check that you have all the proper gear for the trek. You will have the afternoon to prepare your luggage and to buy missing items (if needed) or simply rest before the great ascent.Dinner and night in lodge.

Day 4, October 12, 2016: Machame Gate (5,950 pi/ 1,815 m) Machame Camp (9,850 ft/ 3,000 m)

You will leave in the morning at around 8 AM for Machame village where the trek starts. At the park entrance, you will meet your mountain guides and porters and will witness how they share the luggage between them. From there you will walk approximately 6 hours through the dense forest of rubber trees and giant fig trees. You will also see begonias and other tropical vegetation. After a while, the tropical forest will give way to tall grass and giant heather.

The camp will be set up upon your arrival.

Day 5, October 13, 2016: Machame Shira Camp (12,600 ft/ 3,840 m)

You will have a beautiful view of the Kibo if weather permits as the day starts. The day’s trek takes you through a steep track through a Savannah of tall grass, volcanic rock and bearded heather. You will then encounter giant groundsels, tall and seemingly guardians of untouched treasures.

The steep path will lead you through a ghostly landscape of volcanic lava, caves and foamy streams framed by the giant groundsels. You will then come to the Shira plateau and 3 to 4 hours later at Shira Camp.

The camp is at 12,600 ft.

Day 6, October 14, 2016: Shira Camp Barranco Camp (13,200 ft/ 4,025 m)

The Shira plateau will greet you this morning. You will walk steadily up to the pass at Lava Tower (at 15,000 ft), then descend towards Barranco Camp. The descent will take you along an immense canyon called Grand Barranco where you will encounter the groundsels once again.

There are numerous tiny waterfalls, fed by streams coming from the mountain, which converge here to form one river. Camp is set up here at almost the same altitude as the night before.

Day 7, October 15, 2016: Barranco Camp Karanga Camp (13,300 ft/ 4,055 m)

This acclimatization day is organized to reduce the distance between Barranco and Barafu camps. It begins with a scramble up the steep “Barranco Wall”, then with a hike up and down the slopes of valleys which have carved their way into the mountain’s southern face.

We will reach the Karanga Valley after 3-4 hours of trekking.

Day 8, October 16, 2016: Karanga Camp Barafu Camp (15,200 ft/ 4,630 m)

You will have another 5-hour walk on this day leading you to Barafu Camp. After this full day of trekking you will be encouraged to turn in early on this evening as the next day will be quite long.

Day 9 October 17, 2016: Barafu Stella Point (5,745 m) Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft 5,895 m) Barafu

You will begin your ascent around 6 AM (depending on the group’s pace).

After a 6 -7 hour hike from the camp you will stand atop of the highest free standing mountain in the world, 19,340 feet above sea level. From the summit, it will take you 2 -3 h to get back to Barafu Camp for a second night here. You should rest and drink a lot of water.

Day 10, October 18, 2016: Barafu - Mweka Camp (10,200 ft 3,100 m)

You will continue your descent until the last camp, Mweka at 10,200ft where you are going to spend your last night on Kilimanjaro and have your victory celebration!

Day 11, October 19, 2016: Mweka Camp Mweka Gate (6,000 ft/1,830 m)

From the camp to the gate, you will walk through the same kind of forest as the one you encountered on the way up. Upon arrival at the gate you will have lunch. Return to lodge to relax. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner and receive your certificate.
