Douglas Brian Shapiro Memorial Golf Tournament
On April 23, 2000, Douglas Shapiro, at the age of 49 years, succumbed to cancer after a long and dignified battle. While most people knew him as a kind, unassuming sales executive with a keen sense of humour, those who were lucky enough, knew him as so much more … a loving father, son, brother, uncle, husband and fiercely loyal friend whose love of life, family, friends and nature was closely intertwined with his passion for golf.
At the time of his death, Doug was in the midst of organizing a “50th Birthday Golf Weekend” for fifteen of his friends who were all reaching this milestone in the same year. This group, friends since childhood, together with his family has pledged to take Doug's initiative one step further. Hence was born the Douglas Brian Shapiro Memorial Golf Tournament, an annual golf tournament and memorial fund to commemorate Doug and raise money for cancer research. This fund and memorial tournament, now in their eighteenth year, have raised over $50,000 to date with all funds directly benefiting the Cancer Research Society. Your donation, great or small, helps the Cancer Research Society in its fight against cancer.
